Gamer’s ADD

Most of the people I know who play games have Gamer’s ADD, and I am no different. What is Gamer’s ADD you might ask? It’s the uncanny ability to quickly get absorbed into a given game and just as quickly lose interest when the next “shiny object ” comes along. For some of us, it is video games; consuming them in rapid succession as fast as they can come to market. For others, it is miniatures games. The dreams of a fully painted army dancing in our heads as we purchase the troops we need to fulfill those dreams. Then reality sets in and we have to assemble and paint our horde. A savior then appears in the form of a new game or a new army promising us more success on the battlefield and inspiring even greater dreams of a completed army.

I am somewhat guilty of the former case being an avid World of Warcraft player for the past year or so only to be interrupted by the great game Dragon Age. My WoW time has been cut deeply, although I am now reaching the point where Dragon Age is starting to lose its luster and I long to complete it.

The same can be said for my miniatures addiction. The 24th Kellian stare at me from their static position on my table, jealous of the Trollbloods, Protectorate and British troops that have shuffled their way into the front of the line of who gets painted first.

Sadly, Gamer’s ADD is truly a disease and I do not know if there is a cure. Rest assured though, it is not a fatal disease, just one that causes heartache among the games affected.

Until next time…
